can i use a transformer as setp up as well as step down transformer

l m having a transformer having primary of 230 vac and secondary of 12 vac.

by using secondary as primary and giving 12vac input can l get 230vac

You need to be awarded about the mutual inductance between

As long as you use the voltages the windings are rated for,

Yes, but it may not work great based on how it is wound. Step

up or step down is based on the ratio of the windings.
